Anyone who believes they’ve met the requirements for Emblem or Completion status may send their qualifying information to the Western States Climbers Executive Committee (WSC ExCom), who will review this information for accuracy, after which their name will be added to the corresponding table.
The peaks are classified as Star (*), Emblem (x), and Mountaineer (o) peaks according to their view, difficulty, and dominance of an area. Star peaks are primary in setting with exceptional views and are generally of greater difficulty. Emblem peaks are secondary. Mountaineer peaks comprise the remainder. All provide a rewarding experience.
OGUL Peak List Emblem Status will be conferred on those climbers who have reached the summits of:
- 10 star (*) peaks on this list, or
- 5 star (*) and any other 10 peaks on this list, or
- Any 20 peaks on this list.
OGUL Peak List Completion Status will be conferred on those climbers who have reached the summits of all peaks on the OGUL Peak List.
Climbers who reach Emblem Status or Completion Status are eligible to receive a free patch acknowledging their achievement.

- Reply to the WSC ExCom email with your supporting information. You can use an attachment if that is convenient. The following information is required:
- your name, home address, and e-mail address.
- the status (emblem or completion) for which recognition is sought.
- a list of peaks climbed, including the date of each ascent and the leader of each outing (if any) or others who were on the climb who may be able to verify this information.
- The WSC ExCom will review your application and, if acceptable, award the requested status by listing your name on the Ogul website and notify you of your status.
Emblem and List Completion status were first awarded (1983-1998) when this was a hardcopy list maintained by the Sierra Club’s Northern Alpine Section, aka the Peak and Gorge Section. After the Section was disbanded, their list was used to create this on-line OGUL Peak List. While continuing to recognize these earlier climbers, we encourage others to obtain on-line recognition to foster this spirit in the climbing community.
