The site is great. It would be nice if some Sierra Club leader would lead hikes to these peaks.
Used to be, we’d lead climbs to all of the peaks, including Ogul.
Hey, who’s doing this? I’ve now bagged the Ogul list 3X, and have only several more peaks to go for my 4X, if I had the energy now.
Hi Pete,
Sorry it took so long to reply, I wasn’t monitoring comments. I built this site to provide more information about the Oguls. Glad you found the site.
Mike
Thanks. If I had more energy, I’d be doing videos for You Tube about climbing the peaks, as it seems to be a great way for showing routes and summit views in now 4k.
I should let people know that Devil’s Peak is inaccessible due to the approach going through private property. The landowners do not want anyone trespassing on their land. They sited CA Penal Code 602 and will prosecute anyone with fines and jail time. I think we should take Devil’s Peak off the Ogul list. I didn’t see anywhere to email someone so I thought to post it here.
I agree. It’s a bummer, but I’m viewing these as the “62 Tahoe Oguls” with Devils Peak going the way of Pilot Knob on the SPS List.
If people want to feel like they’ve fully completed the list just the same, they can pick some of the harder climbs off the Ogul Plus list that approach the scrambling difficulty of Devils Peak. Thimble Peak, Little Pyramid Peak, and Pickett Peak make for solid substitutions.
I called the land owner and she was not friendly. Maybe one day a land trust will get a hold of this. It’s still possible to climb Snow peak without crossing her property but it requires a long detour and navigation skills.
Crossing at the corner looks like it should be allowed but it is called corner hopping and it is still trespassing. Sad
I think that I found a way to do Devils w/o crossing private land. If Devils goes, so must Snow Mountain, as the approach is about the same.
Please add me as an Ogul List finishers this day on Mt Siegel. Better late than never!
